Bench Tuning

This was the original way to remap a vehicle prior to vehicles having an OBD port. The ECU would be removed from the vehicle and opened to access the circuit board where the work is carried out on the bench manually and then replaced in the vehicle. Some vehicles can only be remapped this way, not all cars can simply just be plugged into the OBD and mapped.

The Bench Tuning process requires the separation of the ECU circuit board from the vehicle. Once the ECU is removed from the vehicle, then opened and it is this process that allows us to make a direct connection to the internal circuit board of the ECU on our 'workbench', hence the name. There are then several different ways of communicating with the ECU. This is largely dependent on the ECU type and the microprocessor involved. Once our remapping work has been carried out manually, the ECU is put back together and placed back and connected to the vehicle.
